warmth

by Mandy Butler
(united kingdom)

when im feeling bad, tummy cramps, running to the toilet etc,i lay down on a heat pad,if the pain is really bad i use a hot water bottle on my tummy at the same time.
I was also told to read the book "Gut instinct" it had a lot of advise,i also found writing a food diary helped,i found certain things made me worse and opposite to what i had been told-brown bread, wheat, high fibre made me worse,it was worth cutting things out,one at a time and finding how my symptoms went, this helped me to discover what made me worse,it took time and effort but through trial and error i have a much better life.
My consultant even changed my Buscapan tablets to injections i learnt to do myself,so when i had the bad times,i could resort to an injection,i hate needles but was willing to try anything at the time,i do one and if im still bad half an hour later i do another,i would honestly prefer a little sharp scratch from a needle to tummy cramps, anyone who would like to contact me is welcome to x

helpfull
by: Anonymous

hi there i am glad i have read your comments, as i have suffered IBS, for 8 years now, it took along time to be diagnosed, and alot of pain, i even had my galdbladder removed as they thought it could be galdstones, i am prescribed buscopan tablets, which do help with mild pain, but when i have a bad bout of pain, i have spent hours in A&E waiting for a buscopan injection, which has worked almost instantly, this is ruining my life and the decisions i make incase i take a bad bout i have to be near a hospital, i have asked my doctor ab out injection myself but was told i could not as it is a im injection, i go on holiday in 8 weeks my first holiday since having this, as ive allways been too scared to got to far, and im very anxious if i get the pain over therre, having to find a hospital and exsplain everything, and hopefully be given the injection, it would be much easier if i could be given it to inject myself, i dont know if its because im in the uk and laws may be different but your commentss have given me hope and i, am going to go back and visit my doctor, to see if he can give me it, so thanks has been of great help

Heat and Buscopan
by: Siân@IBS-Life

I also use a hot water bottle when my IBS is really bad. At times I have spent days with a hot bottle on my stomach. I was once given Buscopan, and did not know one could inject it. I will as my GP about this the next time I see him about IBS.

I also had to learn what foods exacerbated IBS, and so now it would appear to be solely stress related, for me.
