treatment for IBS...

There is no single universal treatment for IBS. This is due to the wide and varied range of symptoms that affect different people in different ways.



For many of us, certain trigger foods and/or stress can cause the Symptoms of IBS
Removing these factors from our lives can sometimes be enough to prevent further IBS attacks, without the need for any kind of medication or further treatment.


Most of the medications and treatments available will only alleviate the symptoms of IBS, as there is currently no known 'cure' for the condition.




Types of Treatment
There are many different types of treatment for IBS which means that most sufferers should be able to find something that helps them.

Some of these treatments will help you through the pain of an attack of IBS and some are used to try to prevent them from occurring in the first place, or at least reduce the severity of the symptoms.

Trial and Error
Many IBS sufferers may try several remedy's, or treatments, before eventually finding something that helps them. As everyone's symptoms tend to be slightly different, it's often a case of trial and error to find what works best for you.

Metamucil is often used by people suffering constipation prevalent IBS (IBS-C). It's a natural fiber (psyllium) that absorbs liquid and swells, and makes the stools softer.





Librax


Librax is a medication that GP's sometimes prescribed to treat stress-related IBS.






Buscopan


Buscopan is one of the older medications on the market which is used to help with IBS Cramps.




Probiotics
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria to balance the micro flora of the gut. Here we look into whether Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers can benefit from them.




Ginger Root
Ginger Root has been used for over 2000 years as a natural remedy to help with indigestion, nausea and cramping which makes it worth trying for some sufferers of IBS.



Peppermint Oil
