Meet the team - Sian

My name is Sian, I am an avid reader and writer, and both can be done at home -- which is fortunate for some-one who suffers severe anxiety and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I have lived with a sensitive stomach all my life. Nerves go straight to my gut, and always have. I'm sure that's true for many people.

As I grew older, my anxiety and stress increased, resulting in sometimes days of acute nausea, stomach pain, constipation and/or diarrhea, but I did not hear the term Irritable Bowel Syndrome until about fifteen years ago.

I was a child who longed to travel, who was, and still am, fascinated with far off places, distant cultures and history. The world seemed mine to explore, until panic attacks shrunk it.

Then came the IBS. The world would be mine to explore still - with a private plane, and a mobile bathroom!

I have tried many different treatments for IBS, some have made a difference, some have not, and I am sure a great many people are like me in that they will try almost anything to alleviate or cure the symptoms. I have had to explain to employees what IBS is, and why I am doubled over in severe pain, which is not easy, indeed is embarrassing. However, I now will talk about it if necessary, since Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a recognized medical condition.

Regards

sian
