School Bus Trip
By Sue from USA
I think that IBS is our intestines reacting to our brain's anxiety in it's own "special" way.. I have IBS symptoms when I'm not sure where a restroom is. Usually when driving in an unfamiliar area or on a long trip. I know exactly when and where it all started. I was on a field trip, in a school bus with my son. That morning I had three cups of coffee and no food for breakfast. So I was "surprised" when I felt an overwhelming urgency to go, but couldn't stop the bus! I was surprised how foolish my behavior was, what was I thinking? Oh, I wasn't. I experienced my first, caffeine induced panic attack that day. I have had a problem with this bathroom thing for years now. It seems, I know what the problem is, but I can't seem to fix myself. I'm 98% better. I deal with the remaining 2% in several ways. First, I always have a big raincoat with me in any car I'm in, so if I had to, I could stop the car and go. I also make everyone aware of my little problem and that makes me feel more comfortable. I also try to remind myself that everybody has to go sometime, some of us more often, but it's not a sin to have to go! And that nobody around me when I'm feeling this way is any better than me, so why be so shy about having to leave their presence to relieve myself? Because that's the bottom line, isn't it? We are just too worried about what others think of us? Because if we weren't, this would not be an issue...Everyone in the whole world has "issues", and we have a special one!
