Try the Mediterranean diet
for good digestion.

The Mediterranean diet is a great diet for IBS sufferers because if you follow it, you'll be eating high quality healthy food, and avoiding foods which give your digestive systems a hard time.

Some IBS sufferers attribute their symptoms to certain foods and eating them can cause their symptoms to get worse.

We've written an article on some of the foods to be avoided and in this one we'll briefly touch upon this diet which can be really good for you. diet for ibs This is a very popular diet eaten regularly by the people in the Mediterranean countries including Greece and Italy, which provides essential, healthy and balanced sources of nutrition for the body.

The food is very tasty, natural and incorporates eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, along with nuts, grains, seeds, pasta, rice and certain breads.

Note – Obviously, if you have any intolerances to wheat / gluten then you'll have to avoid some of those ingredients but there are still many other beneficial ingredients available in the diet which may help you...

One of the primary ingredients in Mediterranean style food is the use of Olive oil for flavoring and cooking instead of the higher level fat Oils that are prevalent in other diets

Olive oil is very healthy cooking oil when used in moderation.It is high in mono-unsaturated fats (the good kind), which is a type of fat that has been proven to help reduce cholesterol levels when used instead of saturated or Trans fats.

For extra antioxidant effects benefits use the "Virgin" and "Extra virgin" Olive oils because these are the least processed forms which mean they contain the most levels of the good stuff from bulk of the Olives.

Grains from the Mediterranean are normally of the whole grain variety and contain virtually no unhealthy Trans fats. Any bread eaten are done so without any kind of butter or margarine's which also helps keep bad saturated or Trans fats free from the diet.


Fresh Fish and Red wine are another major compliment to the Mediterranean diet. diet for ibs The fresh fish used are generally very high in Omega 3 oils which help improve the health of your blood vessels.

Aim to eat fish at least once or twice a week.

Tuna, salmon, trout, herring, and mackerel are excellent choices because they are some of the 'oiliest' fish available.

The red wine (drunk in moderation) helps reduce the bloods ability to clot, so along with the rest of the diet is a very Heart-healthy one to follow.

As you can see there are many good reasons to follow a Mediterranean diet; it is high in antioxidants, it is very low in cholesterol, and it is easy on the digestive system which means that for some sufferers of IBS it may be beneficial.

Oh, and it tastes great!
