ibs @ 17. Young and already tired.

by Yanna D.R.
(Philippines)

Hi. I'm yanna and I have just been diagnosed with ibs-constipation type. At first, we thought it was chronic functional constipation. It was going on for quite a long while (since I was in High School) but I did not pay high regard thinking it was only a minor problem. I am now in College (a medtech student) and during my first year, my bowels became too infrequent. I have bowel movements every at least nine days, and with the aid of any kind of laxative to stimulate my bowels. If i won't use any laxative, there would be no response at all. Much worse, my gastroenterologist and also my mom who is a doctor took note of the pattern of my response to the drugs i usually take. We found out that i easily build up tolerance against the laxatives i am taking and therefore, i cannot use the same kind each time. I have resorted to administering fleet enema to myself 2 am in the morning before coming to school because of extreme gas, abdominal pain and excessive bloating. I also developed GERD and i need to take omeprazole tabs every now and then. I had to restrict myself from eating things that could worsen my condition, but i haven't any progress up to this day. I had colonoscopy done and it went quite well. My gastro told me to try tea and acupuncture because it might help me a but. I haven't thought of giving up yet because I know that many other people are also suffering and many are trying to find ways on how to alleviate the problem:) as a contribution, i would like to live my dream of becoming a doctor with gastroenterology as my subspecialty so that i may help others with the same difficulties as i am. I became more knowledgable from having this disease and I became much more motivated to find simple cures on my own. Thanks for reading my post. :)

Many many thanks for the comment Sian. Your words made my day. Dealing with it may have been tough and inconvenient for me, but I learned a great deal from all the suffering. Stay well and healthy there!

Although I am so sorry to hear how badly IBS-C is affecting you, and the measures you have to go to. Every-one who suffers IBS tries so many things to cure themselves, but so far all I have been able to do is sometimes alleviate the pain, but not very often :(

Your wish to specialize in gastroenterolgy is wonderful, and I do wish you the very best with that.
