Fruit Smoothies Helped Me

by Russell
(Toronto Canada)

When I was diagnosed with IBS my physician suggested that I avoid gas causing vegetables. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and asparagus etc. As these were some of my favorites I worried that I would not be getting enough fiber in my diet. I tried adding more soluble fiber in the form of fruit smoothies. Pineapple, banana, orange juice and yogurt are the base and I add blueberries or other anti-oxidant berries as they become available in my local market. My personal recipe is: One cup of juice, one banana, one quarter fresh pineapple and just a little plain yogurt. I believe the bromelain in pineapple is a great abdominal soother.

Also fresh pomegranates. It takes about two medium sized ones to make a half cup of juice . I can feel the relief almost as I drink this.

Be careful with the calories in smoothies though. I over did it and gained quite a bit of weight. Thats why I only use one banana now.

This is so crazy that smoothies HELP you! lol They TEAR my stomach to PIECES!! I read this and I couldn't believe it. When I have smoothies I get stomach cramps like crazy and then I have to lye down or something. But I usually avoid them at all possible. I think it's interesting that it helps you. :)
