Finally a cure for me

by Rizwan
(Bangalore)

I have been suffering from IBS since school, but never let it interfere with my life and successfully graduated from medical school. Of course people do think that I am weird since I refused to go outside my house except when absolutely required. But who cares about what others think. I had a real problem. However due to this problem I studied better than them and today I am more successful than them. The good news after starting meditation I have become more calmer and my anxiety and stress have decreased. After a few days of meditation I started to learn more about how I could help myself. Then I learned that eating slowly and less and chewing thoroughly before swallowing will be helpful. I started doing this. In the past while eating I used to read papers and do other stuff but now I eat only thrice a day and I make sure that I do nothing while eating and eat slowly and quietly without talking to anybody. I take some 30 minutes to eat a meal, chewing thoroughly and then swallowing. I eat with a calm mind and a smile on my face. This has helped me tremendously. I than God for providing me a cure. My IBS has vanished and now I go outside whenever I want without any worries or planning.

Dear Mandy
by: Siân@IBS-Life

I am just about to have my own cup of Slippery Elm. I am glad it has improved things for you Mandy, and in the light of some recent articles I have read, I think there may be a reason.

I am intending to write this into an article, but I will say it here; I also wrote this to a gentleman with Levator Ani via YouTube:

Did you read about the man with ulcerative colitis, whose only medical option in the end was to have his colon removed?

He went to Thailand and ingested parasitic leeches, which cured him. I've also read about some-one who spent time in an African village, walking barefoot around the latrine area, where the earth is infested with these worms, and the worms entered through the soles of his feet. Apparently, in the Third World people don't suffer things like IBS, colitis, Levator, any of these things, as we do; they are a rarity. The worms eventually died in the upper gut and did no harm. Now, they are saying it may be because the worms caused the body to produce mucous, which soothed and allowed healing.

Slippery Elm food has the same effect, it encourages the body to produce mucous anywhere it is needed, to sooth throat, lungs, bladder, as well as stomach and bowels. I know for a fact that taking it regularly does ease my IBS, but I only drink one cup per day -- I am now wondering if taking more would have an even greater effect. And it beats worms, lol. (I would try anything, but that's a bit much. Plus I don't think I could afford Thailand!)

It is worth trying the powder form if you can, as you can easily see how *gloopy* it is :) and by extension, how soothing - the Native Americans used to use a paste of it on wounds. And it is not unpleasant at all. I even take it as thick as porridge sometimes. This is not scientifically proven, of course, but it is a theory, and I think there may be something in it. Of course, like many things it does require that you take it regularly, as you have been with the capsules. I certainly notice that if I run out, or cannot get it, my stomach does get worse.

Take care and best of luck

Siân

Thank-you for your post

It is very encouraging to see that you have found a cure. Meditation is helpful to me, I find, only I have to get the trick of making the calmness last beyond the meditative state. It's wonderful that you graduated medical school, and I wish you the best for the future.
