The commonality
of Bowel Problems

Bowel problems seem to be increasingly common in this modern and fast-paced society. Perhaps it can only be expected. They may be caused by eating too fast, greasy or fatty foods, by not giving ourselves times to digest what we eat, by intolerance, or by stress.

Probably most people know that these problems may flare up after a shock or fright; an interview, a close-shave in a car, a violent argument or fear for some-one. It is not uncommon for extreme emotions to cause stomach ache and/or diarrhea.

It may be less well-known that constant stress can lead to long-term bowel issues such as IBS. It is certainly stress that causes my own IBS as I believe I have now eliminated the foods that adversely affected me.

It is important of course, that any time these issues become long term, that is, lasting more than a few days, and with no apparent trigger, such as a stomach virus or food poisoning, your family doctor should be consulted.

The causes of bowel troubles are varied and should not be self-diagnosed. If you are diagnosed with IBS, you may, like me, have suffered years of stomach cramps which were not gynaecological in origin, nausea and with bouts of diarrhea or constipation.

Unfortunately, if IBS is the cause of your bowel troubles, there is as yet no complete cure for it, although you may be prescribed certain medications to help alleviate it.

You may also embark on a journey taking you through many different meditations, natural remedies, diets and supplements to attempt to combat the distress these bowel issues cause. They can be painful, embarrassing and depressing to deal with over many years, but the first step is to find the cause by seeing your GP.
